O’Neal Welcomes New Headmaster and Complete Campus

“New” is the word for The O’Neal School as students return to the classroom with new roads, new parking, a new activities center, and a new headmaster. The completed O’Neal campus is the reality of a vision put on paper over ten years ago. activities center 72309The 30,000 sq. ft. Activities Center houses a gymnasium along with the amenities of locker rooms, fitness / weight rooms, concessions area and more. The Center will also have a 250-seat theater and four classrooms for drama and music. The O’Neal School will be hosting four performances in partnership with the Arts Council of Moore County in a program called the Kaleidescope Family Series. The program will consist of four performances open to the community in the new theater throughout the year. With this facility, O’Neal will continue to enhance its fine arts curriculum as well as athletics and physical education programs. As a result of the new facility, additional parking is now in place as well as a new drive that will create a smoother traffic flow for the campus.

Alan Barr joined The O’Neal School on July 1st as the School’s sixth headmaster. Mr. Barr has been head of school at Trinity School of Midland, in Midland, Texas for the past three years. A native of Richmond, Virginia, he previously spent thirteen years at Kenston Forest School in Blackstone, Virginia where he served as teacher, upper school director and eventually as headmaster. “I am happy to be part of the O’Neal community,” states Mr. Barr. “This is going to be an exciting school year for everyone and I’m looking forward to it.” He and his wife, Kelly live in Pinehurst with their son, Spencer, age 10 and daughter, Carter, age 7.

Serving students from Pre-K to Grade 12, The O’Neal School is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and is a Core Knowledge National Visitation Site. The school has dual accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS). 100% of its seniors graduate and are accepted to colleges and universities throughout the nation.
