Belonging to a church provides families with not only more than just a place to worship but also a sense of belonging to a community. With more than 200 area churches covering 31 different denominations, you are sure to find a service that fits your family’s style. A large number of local churches are family focused and offer their parishioners great resources, including nursery services, Vacation Bible School, religious education classes, youth groups and special events throughout the year.

Area churches also play an important role in servicing the needs of the local community. In addition to doing missionary work outside the region, many churches and their parishioners volunteer with local charities in addition to sponsoring events to raise funds and food for the needy. Although the various organizations throughout the community benefit from the generosity of local churches, two groups – Family Promise and MANNA! – are supported by a network of churches that work together to assist both charities.

Family Promise of Moore County is a non-profit agency dedicated to alleviating homelessness. Host congregations open the doors of their facilities for one week, four to five times per year to homeless families. Under the direction of the FPMC director, they provide breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as transportation to and from the Day Center. Congregation volunteers stay with the families through their time at the facility to provide support and ensure that their stay proceeds smoothly.
