O’Neal’s Sophia Renner is Awarded National Merit Commendation

Southern Pines – O’Neal senior Sophia Renner was recognized as a Commended Student for the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program before her peers recently. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more the 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 competition by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).

“It is wonderful for Sophia to receive this recognition, it is certainly a testament to her hard work, determination, and natural ability,” states Head of O’Neal’s Upper School, Matt Jacobs. “Her value to O’Neal, however, goes far beyond a test score. She is an amazing student-athlete, school leader, and a tremendous asset to our campus culture. We are very proud of her and are excited to celebrate her success.”
