Are you feeling tired and sluggish more often than you would like? Follow these 5 tips to fight fatigue and get through the day feeling energized!
EAT! Eat a balanced diet with carbohydrates, fats, and proteins throughout the day. Do not skip meals or avoid any of these important macronutrients as they are all needed for basic bodily functions. Choose nutrient-dense foods that are fresh and as minimally processed as possible.
– Choose antioxidant rich foods including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. Omega-3 fatty acids (found primarily in fish) have been shown to improve mood, cognition, and energy levels.
-Steer clear of junk foods especially those high in refined sugar and carbohydrates. Choose carbohydrate foods in their whole form (un-refined) and avoid white versions of pasta, noodles, rice, flour, bread, crackers, etc. Limit dessert foods and sugary drinks to special occasions.
DRINK! Water is the drink of choice but if you’re not a fan, try adding a twist of lemon, lime or using seltzer water to something different. Dehydration can cause headaches, lack of energy, and impair mood and concentration. Shoot for at least 8- 8oz glasses of water a day!
SLEEP! Get your 8 hours of sleep each night as frequently as possible. Set yourself a bed-time each night and stick it to ensure you’re reaching this goal!
EXERCISE! Fight off fatigue with exercise. Physical activity increases endorphins, improves body composition, and mood in general. You will feel better physically and emotionally after a good workout!
RELAX! Kick back and enjoy some time for yourself. Not only is it a good way to boost your energy but you’ll likely feel less stressed.
