Southern Pines Recreation & Parks 2017 Summer Camps

Southern Pines Recreation & Parks Department Accepting Summer Camp
Registration Southern Pines Recreation & Parks Department announced
its listing of summer camp offerings in its summer brochure.  “Summer
is just around the corner and these warm temperatures should remind
parents that before you know it, school will be out and they will be
looking for summer camps and activities to make sure their child has
a fun and memorable summer and to help keep them busy,” states Sue
Gillis of Southern Pines Recreation Department.  “I recently emailed
registration forms to past participants, the Spring/Summer Recreation
Brochure has been distributed and the response to our day camps has
been brisk,” adds Gillis who coordinates day camps.

With its expanded hours of 9 am-4:00 pm, Crafty Kids Creation Camps
for ages 7 and above are sure to fill quickly.  With Ms. Karen
Fellema leading, your child is guaranteed to create a variety of
crafts.  The camp dates are as follows:  June 12-16  Drawing &
Bookmaking; June 19-23 Nature Crafts & Yard Art; June 26-30
Jewelry Creations; July 10-14  Painting Adventures; July 17-21
Drawing & Bookmaking; July 24-28  Christmas in July; Aug. 7-11
String Art & Weaving; Aug. 14-18  Painting Adventures; Aug. 21-25
Recycle Art.

Young sculptures and potters will definitely want to hone their
skills in Clay Camp for ages 5 and above.  Children will make pottery
and paint pottery and projects.  Camp is held at the historic
downtown Train Station, 10 am-12 pm.  Session 1:  July 3-7 and
Session 2:  July 31-Aug. 4.

Science in the Sandhills Camps are open to youth ages 8-12.  This
camp will transform laboratory science into fun, interactive learning
experiences with a perfect combination of innovative,
hands-on experiments, group projects, observations, and more.
Camps are held 9 am-12 pm (unless noted) at Douglass Community
Center.  Session 1: June 19-23; Session 2:  July 10-14; Session 3:
July 24-28; Session 4:  Aug. 14-18, 8 am-2 pm

Instructor, Kourtney Hounsell describes Jr. Cheerleading camps as a
dynamic blend of spunk, tumbling, and dance that builds positive
learning attitudes in a playful and exciting experience. Camps are
open to children ages 3-11 (depending on session).  Camps will be
held:  Session 1 June 12-16, 9 am-4 pm; Session 2 & 3 July 10-14 (am
and pm camps); Session 4 Aug. 7-11; and Session 5 & 6 Aug.
14-18 (am and pm camps).

KinderFun Camp for ages 3-6 years (must be potty trained) offers
Sing Alongs, Music, Dramatics, Art, Group Dynamics, Fun, Play.
Put them together and you have much more than a camp, you have a
Special Summer Experience for your child.  Session 1 June  19-23
Outrageous Science; Session 2 June 26-30 Holiday Hoopla; Session 3
July 10-14 The Great Outdoors; Session 4 July 17-21 Summer
Adventures; and Session 5 July 24-28 Outrageous Science II.

Always a favorite and guaranteed to fill quickly, Fire Academy Camp
is open to youth ages 7-13.  Camp will be held July 17-20,
1:00-5:00 pm at SP Fire Dept.  Lots of hands-on practice and a fire
team competition, makes more than a fun camp . . . it’s a great

New for summer 2017, Summer Swim League is perfect for children ages
5-18 who already know how to swim and want to refine their skills.
This competitive league will feature daily swim practice from
12:15-1:15 pm and 4 swim meets.  Summer Swim League will be held
early June through July.

Summer Explorers full day camp for ages 5-8 and 8-13 begins its first
of ten sessions on June 12.  Crafts, Games, Trips, Socialization, and
Swimming help make this a fun camp.

“Register early as camps tend to fill rather quickly,” reminds Ms.
Gillis.  “If you are not planning on taking any major vacations this
summer, and even if you are, our great day camps really do make
summer extra special for your children.”
