Thanks Heidi!
We tried like heck to find Nature's Own when we visited, and we couldn't find it. We were told it was off of Rte. 1 and we drove back and forth like idiots quite a few times.
Yeah, it seems like a narrow focus, but it's amazing how many people have celiac, gluten intolerance or food allergies. (The top doctor for celiac estimates that 1 out of 3 Americans are gluten intolerant.) I currently drive over an hour to Boston to stock up on GF baked goods for my family. We would probably also sell outside of the area via a web site and ship our goodies out as well. I also plan to get to know the doctors in the area so that they can refer their patients, as well as the hotel chefs so they have a place to purchase food for their allergic guests. I also want to start a support group and offer cooking classes for the newly diagnosed. Also, many retirees are diagnosed with celiac, and Pinehurst seems to have a large population of retirees. (Autistic kids also tend to have gluten and dairy allergies.) Also, we would not only sell gluten free baked goods, but things that are dairy free, egg free, peanut free, etc. Our baked goods are better tasting than many regular bakeries make - so I'm hoping that we might even get some regular non-allergic people.
Anyway, thank you for your input. I super appreciate it!! Maybe when I move there, you can help me find that Nature's Own store.
