We will be moving there in a few months! - 2007/10/05 10:41
Hi everybody! My name is Chris and I currently live in NH. My husband and I are planning to move to the Sandhills area with our two sons, ages 5 and 2. We were just down for a visit and like the area - especially the more rural areas. We will probably be there around June or July of '08.
We are moving because it is getting really expensive to live up here. We have a small ranch in the sticks on 0.75 acre and we pay almost $5000 a year in property taxes. (We do not have income tax or sales tax however.) We also are not fans of the cold winters. (We both used to live in FL and PA.) Another reason is that my husband has been diagnosed with arthritis in his spine, and he can no longer do his job as an ironworker foreman in Boston.
So, we are really excited about our move. We are hoping to start a business when we get down there. My sons and I have celiac sprue, which is a non-contagious autoimmune disorder that affects the intestines. Basically, we can't eat gluten which is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and sometimes oats. As long as we avoid gluten, we are as healthy as any other person. When we visited down there, we had a really hard time finding food that we could eat. (The boys are dairy free too.) My husband is also avoiding gluten as of a month ago, and has taken up gluten-free baking. We decided that we would like to open a bakery/cafe/store for people with food allergies and intolerances. I'd love to know your opinions on this. (I currently own a food business, which I'll be selling soon.) I think that with all of the tourists visiting Pinehurst, it would be successful. I would also start a support group for people in the area, since it seems to closest are in Raleigh and Charlotte.
A couple of things do concern me a bit. We are "northerners" and we don't attend church. Will we be accepted?
That's about it. Thank you for taking the time to read my post! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new site design! Chris
