August 1 @ 9:00 am - August 3 @ 1:00 pm
Each August, in a setting that has inspired writers for more than a century, Weymouth hosts Write-On Camp for students in grades 3-5. This year’s camp will run Tuesday, August 1st – Thursday, August 3rd.
Hours are: Tuesday and Wednesday from 9am – noon; Thursday from 9am to 1pm.
Once again talented, qualified instructors will work with area children on writing fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Our lead instructor and director of Write-On Camp is writer and poet John Amen. Mr. Amen is the author of four poetry collections and his work has appeared in numerous journals nationally and internationally. He travels widely giving readings and conducting workshops. He is the founder and editor of the The Pedestal Magazine.
In this year’s workshop, students will examine the dynamics of poetry and fiction, will include observation skills practiced from a hike through Weymouth Woods in their works, and will consider how best to present their writings. In addition this year, students will explore illustration through observation and sketching. There will be a student performance for parents and guests on Thursday from 12-1 pm.
Instructors: John Amen, Beth Copeland, Laurie Lyn, Karen Poppele and Ellen Burke.
Cost: $50 per child. We are currently seeking sponsorships for children who may not otherwise be able to attend.
