The Perfect Preschool

One of the most complicated, thought provoking, anxiety creating decisions we face as parents is picking the right preschool. The prospect of sending your child away for the first time by themselves for the entire morning can be absolutely overwhelming. The pressure to make the right choice about your child’s education can make even the most sane person completely irrational.

Another New Year

Each year, millions of Americans set unattainable resolutions for the New Year. They decide to eat right, lose weight, save more money and give to charities. Then at the end of January, they throw in the towel and return to the life they had the year before vowing that they’ll never set a resolution again. But time moves forward and another New Year follows. Once again they enter the vicious cycle of resolutions.

Everyone Loves A Parade

Everyone loves a parade, especially me. Regardless of how small or big, I still find myself full of anticipation as I wait for the first float to pass. So when there’s a parade in town rest assured that you’ll find me and my family parked on the side line cheering everyone on. This past weekend, Southern Pines held its annual Holiday Parade and we were right there to enjoy every minute of the festivities.

Online Shopping - Finding the Deals

The arrival of Black Friday marked the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Just like Santa, the veteran shopper is making a list and checking it twice. They’re on the hunt for the perfect gift at a bargain price regardless of who has been naughty or nice. The malls are packed with people and the parking lots are full. And if you can tolerate the chaos that comes with the hunt, then you’re bound to find a great deal.

A Christmas So Bright You Gotta Wear Shades

If you live in my neighborhood, you know not to put your house on the market in December. It’s not because the real estate market is slow this time of year—it’s just my house will be something of a distraction. You see, my family’s sense of holiday style falls in line with the Griswolds. Each year after the last of the turkey's put away, our house turns into a Vegas dream of bright twinkle lights and plastic holiday decorations that rival even the best decorated trailer parks.

Behind the Bravery of Every Soldier is the Courage of a Military Family

It’s been seven years since I traded in my BDUs and became an Army Wife. Before that my husband and I were a dual-military family, both serving in the Army. It was not an easy decision for me to leave my Army days behind, but in the end my desire to have a family was stronger than my desire for a military career. Both my husband and I were raised in military families; we were well aware of the many sacrifices our young family would make if we both stayed on active duty. So when it came time for me to hang up my uniform for good, I thought I would be taking on an easier role as the wife instead of the soldier. I was greatly mistaken.

A Pottery Party

Birthday parties are a part of having kids. You are either planning one or going to one, but there always seems to be one on the horizon. So it was no surprise when I found myself spending another afternoon in a room full of pink balloons and giggling six-year-old girls. What I didn’t expect was how much fun the afternoon would be.

Festival of Trees - Fun for the Whole Family

Even though it is only November, you can’t help but be reminded that Christmas is just around the corner. Stores have been stocked with holiday decorations before Halloween even arrived. On-line merchandisers have flooded my inbox with promotions trying to convenience me to buy early because there are only 52 shopping days left. I’ve already found myself scheduling holiday photos and volunteering to help with several Christmas Parties. And the month has only just begun.

Finding the right pumpkin is the real Halloween trick (and treat)

I know that for some “the perfect pumpkin” is the $2.99 find at Wal-Mart. But for me, October is the beginning of pumpkin hunting season. Like Linus in Peanuts, I, search from pumpkin patch to pumpkin patch looking for that one and only Great Pumpkin—a beautiful, orange orb that will be transformed by my imagination and light up my porch on Halloween night. Not every pumpkin is worthy to receive the honor of being turned into a glowing Jack-O-Lantern, however. That job falls to but one squash a year – the perfect pumpkin.
