The Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Aberdeen area has a large selection of major retailers including Lowe’s, Wal-Mart, Big Lots, Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Ross Dress for Less, PetsMart, Rack Room Shoes, Goodies, Peeble’s, Stein Mart, Claire’s, Belk’s, Talbot’s, Bath & Body Works, Michael’s, Staples, Tuesday Morning and Pier One Imports. In the next year, several new retailer’s including Home Depot will be moving into the area.
In addition to franchised retailers, the downtowns of Southern Pines, Pinehurst and Aberdeen feature a unique collection of specialty boutiques, shops and eateries. Offering an eclectic mix of stores and local wares, shoppers are sure to find a great selection of treasures. Many of the local retailers showcase artwork from regional artisans and potters.  Located in the heart of the Sandhills, Moore County is known world wide for its temperate climate, rolling hills, majestic pine trees, southern hospitality and pristine golf courses. Considered the “Home of American Golf”®, the area proudly sponsored the 1999 and 2005 US Men’s Open Championship, the 2001 and 2007 US Women’s Open Championship and will host the US Amateur in 2008. But it’s not all about adults, each year the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen area hosts the US Kids Golf World Championship for children 4 -12.
Moore County’s central location provides easy access to the mountains, coast and major cities. Just 35 minutes from Fort Bragg’s main post and an hour south of Raleigh-Durham and the Research Triangle Park, it’s conveniently located to shopping, museums, parks and galleries. The Moore County Airport offers commercial air service with Delta and Southern Pines Train Station offers passenger service with Amtrak along the Silver Star route. In addition, the Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Fayetteville Regional Airport provides transportation options for longer trips.  Although golf is the main attraction in Moore County, families will find a wide selection of activities for all ages. The Greenway Trail Systems of Southern Pines and Pinehurst offer over 15 miles of nature trails ideal for hiking and biking. Area parks and playgrounds provide children of all ages with the ideal spot for climbing, jumping and running. Throughout the year local events, festivals and concerts are the perfect choice for family outings.
Organized sports are an important part of life in the Sandhills. Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Football, Wrestling, Swimming and Martial Arts are just a few of the sports offered by the local Recreation and Parks department as well as other youth groups such as The Sandhills Optimist Club and Sandhills Sandsharks. Gymnastics, Dance and Theatre are also popular activities and are offered year-round. Additionally, the area is nationally recognized for equestrian activities and is home to the Carolina Horse Park. Scouting and 4H groups are a great place for children to make new friends, learn life skills and become active members of the community. Local Boy and Girl Scout Troops participate in a variety of events and volunteer programs. The area’s 4H programs also provides youth with many opportunities for exploring the region’s rich agricultural history while having fun. Most churches in the area also sponsor youth groups for preteens and teenagers that focus on family values and community service.  Life in the Sandhills offers family’s more than just world class golf and resort style living. The areas excellent school system, small town atmosphere and family friendly businesses make it the perfect place to raise your family.  The Sandhills Region is not your typical military community.
