North Carolina law defines a home school as a non-public school in which the student receives academic instruction from his/her parent, legal guardian, or a member of the household in which the student resides. North Carolinians for Home Education - Established in 1984, the NCHE is a private, volunteer organization active at the state level, serving North Carolina homeschoolers. They provide information for new and active homeschoolers. The organization conducts seminars, classes and divides resources by Region. Moore County and the surrounding area is in Region 7. Local Resources and GroupsChristian Home Educators of the Sandhills - CHES is an informal organization of parents who chose to educate our children at home. CHES was started over 10 years ago by a group of Christian home educators. We are not a church, but do identify ourselves as Christians and desire to conduct ourselves as Christians in all of our activities. We seek to encourage one another in our efforts to educate our children. We work to provide enrichment and fellowship opportunities for our children. In addition, we aim to promte the image of home education within our communities. R.E.A.C.H. is a home school support group in the Sandhills Area that offers friendship, support, information, field trips, and play dates. R.E.A.C.H. is welcoming to all who desire to educate their own children in an atmosphere of mutual RESPECT and FUN! The goals of R.E.A.C.H. are to offer resources that enhance home schooling, to provide support and encouragement for home schooling parents, and to promote activities for all home schooled students.
