In addition to its standing exhibits, the aquarium hosts Penguin Plunge through September 30. Visitors get to meet four endangered African penguins—Suki, South, Sly, and Oswald—known for their distinctive markings and braying calls. Those who attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. on May 12 can take part an array of penguin-themed activities, such as dressing up as a penguin or in black-and-white attire to earn entry in a drawing for a prize. The exhibit also intends to educate visitors about global and local conservation efforts. “Although they look like tuxedoed cartoon characters, these penguins carry an important message about the results of human activities on wild populations,” said aquarium director Allen Monroe.
